Converting Perforce to P4Package

Has any thought ever been given to using the P4 Java API, P4Package, for 
the PerforceRepositoryAdapter?   The URL is:

http://public.perforce.com/public/perforce/api/java/p4package/index.html

It would seem that this could be cleaner than using the shell scripts.
