"'<' is not followed by whitespace" question

Hi,

I am very new to checkstyle. I have a declaration like this:

private static Map<Class, String> cacheSQLSelect = 
new HashMap<Class, String>();

I get these reports in this line:
'<' is not followed by whitespace.
'<' is not preceded with whitespace.
'>' is not followed by whitespace.
'>' is not preceded with whitespace.

Are these false positives or should there really be spaces around '<'
and '>'?

I use checkstyle 4.3 and sun_checks.xml.
