-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello Pat, as this discussion came up, I first thought 'yet another scripting language for the JVM', as they are really millions of them. I use beanshell very much although I'm a NetRexxC fan, but at some extend, beanshell seems to be THAT popular, that as a choice for a macro language it's still #1. The only drawbacks at the moment are: - - performance. Ok, it's a scripting language after all, but still, it's quite slow. But that's no real problem, as normally (at least we do) the scripts aren't that big; full fledged programs shouldn't be written in a script language IMHO. - - debugging. This is really two points, as a) the exceptions thrown are sometimes really meaningless up to even annoyingly missleading, and b) there's no debug mode like in NetRexx (or in Pnuts as I saw). It's nothing special, just printing the current line of code, parameters, variables in and out of functions and such; seems primitive, but hey, it's one of the things I really LOVE at NetRexx. Having this, I would really forget about performance completely, as the real target for a scripting language is 'type it and run it'. If I have to poke around for a simple upper/lower-case prob in a classname for hours, this doesn't make much sense. - - cvs access. This isn't you fault, but the CVS server always is down. I've done something against the annoying message prob (not ready yet...), but it's based on 1.3; I wanted to port it to 2.0. To make things easier, I thought checking out 2.0 from CVS and giving a cvs diff to you would be nice. If only I could access that damn SF CVS... Keep up the good work!
