UTF8 encoding problems - inserted 0's

If I compile my SMTP UTF8 mailer w/GCJ, I see "&#0;" inserted into the
body when I read the message in Evolution. (example  attached).

If I run the app in Eclipse, it arrives correctly.

I'm not quite sure where to look, but this smells like a problem in some
GNU Classpath/Classpathx since it works correctly w/Suns JRE.
