I've removed the rmiport but then the dashboard application could not connect to the server and I do need the dashboard to function. But today I noticed that CruiseControl is also listening on a high port, 48216 for example, and that all the hundreds of connections it opens are connected to that port (CruiseControl's pid is 19305): tcp 0 0 :::48216 :::* LISTEN 19305/java tcp 0 0 ::ffff:127.0.0.1:48216 ::ffff:127.0.0.1:37479 ESTABLISHED 19305/java tcp 0 0 ::ffff:127.0.0.1:48216 ::ffff:127.0.0.1:37472 ESTABLISHED 19305/java tcp 0 0 ::ffff:127.0.0.1:48216 ::ffff:127.0.0.1:37473 ESTABLISHED 19305/java tcp 0 0 ::ffff:127.0.0.1:48216 ::ffff:127.0.0.1:37474 ESTABLISHED 19305/java tcp 0 0 ::ffff:127.0.0.1:48216 ::ffff:127.0.0.1:37475 ESTABLISHED 19305/java tcp 0 0 ::ffff:127.0.0.1:48216 ::ffff:127.0.0.1:37468 ESTABLISHED 19305/java tcp 0 0 ::ffff:127.0.0.1:48216 ::ffff:127.0.0.1:37469 ESTABLISHED 19305/java tcp 0 0 ::ffff:127.0.0.1:48216 ::ffff:127.0.0.1:37470 ESTABLISHED 19305/java .... I currently have over 800 connections like those. I see some RMI traffic on that 48216 port but I can't really say what role it plays and more important - how to prevent it from keeping so many established connections.
