Is there a way to single thread specific builds when the threads count is >1?

We have 100-ish builds, of which about 10 use the same database (DB, user, schema) for junit tests. I would like to enable parallel builds within CruiseControl by setting the <threads count='8' />, but I can't have any of these afore-mentioned 10 builds run concurrently with the others. Is there a way to specify that these builds have to run single-threaded? Also, while on the topic of increasing the thread count, has the issue of having the log files getting the incorrect contents been resolved yet? I see it in 2.7.1, and I saw that it was noted to still be present in 2.8.1. If this is still an issue, is there a tracking number for it that we can check to see if it is resolved in the future?
