Deleteartifacts not deleting anything.

When deleteartifacts is called as follows: <deleteartifacts every="1"  
unit="MONTH"/>, the artifacts of projects older than a month are not  
deleted.  Is deleteartifacts supposed to delete published artifacts?   
I'm not aware of any artifacts besides the published ones so I'm a  
little confused.
