CC does not update the source, but only checks if any changes have been
made. The checks are done by the <modificationset> and then the
<schedule> performs the 'work'. Part of that work is to update the files
from the source control system, probably using an ant script.
Carefully read and re-read the CC cookbook at
http://confluence.public.thoughtworks.org/display/CC/Home
There are a number of good examples that did not come clear to me the
first few readings. Some escaped me until I had most everything working
and was trying to clean up a few loose ends.
One of the biggest 'ah ha' moments came as I understood I could use the
plugin feature to predefine a template project so I did not have to
repeat everything for the nearly 30 projects I use CC to build.
This is a small subset of my config.xml file.
<project name="SomeProject">
...
<modificationset>
<svn LocalWorkingCopy="${build.dir}/${project.name}/MainSource" />
<svn LocalWorkingCopy="${build.dir}/${project.name}/Subproject1" />
<svn LocalWorkingCopy="${build.dir}/${project.name}/Subproject2" />
</modificationset>
...
<schedule>
<ant anthome="/<pathtoant>/apache-ant-1.7.1"
time="0100"
buildfile="${build.dir}/${project.name}/buildnightly.xml"
target="buildnightly"
uselogger="true" />
</schedule>
...
</project >
