svnrevision and publishers

I read a previous thread on this list about svnrevision not working in artifcatspublisher. In particular, Jeffrey Fredrick explained that some properties are resolved at configuration time and others at build time, and that svnrevision is one that is resolved at build time.
He mentioned that it is passed into, e.g., Maven scripts in a schedule element.
My question: I am trying to pass it in as a parameter to an execute publisher but it's not working (my script gets the literal "${svnrevision}". Why won't this work? (Or should it and I'm not doing something right?)
