Hi Steve,

No I don’t think CC can send email anytime but at the end of the build process. What I’m talking about is using the ant mail task to send email. We made the emails look like the ones cruisecontrol sends by using the modifications.xsl as a base and making some mods. For example in our modded modifications.xsl there is a style section that presumably takes things directly from cruisecontrol.css.

Thanks for the responses, I’ll respond to them all here instead of individually.

Adam, I already have a htmlemail publisher configured to run at the end of the project to send out the test results.  Can I have this executed multiple times at different points during the project?

Julian, with the Ant Bootstrapper, Is your thinking to have this use the ant Mail task to send the email?  Could I get this to use the same style sheets the htmlemail publisher uses?
We have all the tests run over night and the triggered builds only run the tests for the current development effort.  So I have stayed away from having timeouts for the ant targets as the number of tests change frequently.

Antoine, your suggestion is similar to Adam’s correct?  Or do I misunderstand what your saying?

The dashboard and/or CC Config is a good idea, I will remind the developers they exist and see if that meets their requirements.
The in house application we use to run the tests is suppose to monitor the tests and move things on when individual test actions timeout, however once in a while things go horribly wrong and everything comes to a stand still [Smile] .  This happened to other day (build stalled for the entire weekend) which prompted the request for the start email.

I think your best bet is sending the mail at the start of your build process. The task would gather the changes, format them into an email body and send it using your builder’s mail task. That’s how we do it at least  in Nant.

Hello,

At the request of one of the developers that use the CruiseControl system I maintain, I’m looking for a way to send out an email when a build starts.  He reasoning being that after receiving the start email if he does not receive the pass/fail email within x minutes he knows something has gone wrong and the system needs looking at.

I have though about having another project use the file system modification set to detect a file that is created by the main project, this project would probably only contain an email publisher.  However before I do this I thought I’d check if there was anything in the configuration that might already do this.
