It's not only time for JavaOne, which is at Moscone Center in

Open source enterprise Java remains a very contentious and political 
topic for most Java developers, including our very own senior Java 
and UNIX editor, Mike Loukides.  Recently, he followed up to see if 
this positioning has changed, and looked at the hurdles open 
source projects like JBoss experience. And speaking of JBoss, I 
conducted an interview with Marc Fleury and his team to see what 
JBoss is doing and where it's headed.

J2EE DESIGN PATTERNS
Enterprise design patterns has been a popular, as well as important 
topic for sound enterprise Java architecture design.  Before last 
month, it was Sue Spielman's article focusing on J2EE Design Patterns 
for the presentation-tier. Last month, ONJava.com gauged much 
interest in J2EE Design Patterns and overall architecture for 
business logic from the following series of book excerpts taken 
from O'Reilly & Associates' Building Java Enterprise Applications 
(Vol. 1, Architecture) by Brett McLaughlin. Part one begins with 
the facade pattern, followed by subsequent parts covering the

USING TOMCAT

SOAP with Apache Jakarta's Tomcat Web container.  Specifically,
