Well, in my opinion, having a webapp being able to create files in CATALINA_HOME/bin is a bad policy. It would be better that it go into CATALINA_HOME/logs. And better still for it to go into some application-specific directory. Just my $0.02. Sure would have been handy if the original error message had printed out its current working directory, eh?
