... and as such, nothing really special. I do this all the time to debug web 
apps, and I was under the impression that this is standard practice among 
Java webapp developers. In fact, whenh I'm developing i usually run my local 
server in debig mode all the time, so that I can connect with a remote 
debugger when something crops up.

Hmm. Why buy a special EJB test environment and not simply run your app server 
of choice in debug mode (same method as described in the article) and connect 
with any remote debugger? 

I know from personal experience that this works very well with both JBoss and 
Bea Weblogic, and I would be very surprised if it didn't work just as well 
with every other J2EE server.
