I don't have any experience with webwork2. I can only tell from 
experience that this DOM overhead isn't much (if you say that it's 
overhead at all?). Several of our pages sometimes contains tripple 
nested tables of a few thousand rows, and our profiler doesn't show any 
large consumption. BTW, when checking performance, IE needs sometimes a 
lot more time for rendering a page 5-7 seconds, which is build in 250msec.
