It certainly sounds better than NetBeans.  NetBeans 3.4 hangs when
starting if you have kelp installed and there are some show-stoppers
with 3.3 also unless I have done something terribly wrong configuring it.

Probably true, but I was wondering how difficult it would be to not use
kelp for development at all.  NetBeans uses Ant for building and Ant
should have no problems deploying as well.  The only other major
functionality that Kelp offers (that I can think of now) is that it
allows you to use the IDE debugger with an enhydra project.  I figure it
cant be too difficult to set this up without Kelp, but have never tried.

The switch to NetBeans requires you to build the build.xml file from
scratch (unless you are using JBuilder 7 enterprise version with Ant
already). Not a pleasant thing to do.  I have heard that it is also
better to use an external Ant 1.5 rather than the NetBeans v 1.4, but
haven't done that.  

Overall, Netbeans seems pretty nice though.  And free.
