If you are using the AWT from J2SE then it is not designed for kilobyten virtual machines. I think in the new release of SUN's development kip MIDP2 there is a kind of kAWT in it. Maybe you should try that one. Moreover note that the kind of virtual machine on the sharp is not the J2SE you know, but a kilobyte virtual machine... it won't run anything from the J2SE/J2EE world.
