shark does not make difference if you use any of these types. It's up to some internal shark API implementation if it'll make some
difference, but as I said, standard implementation(s) does not make any.

what do the participant types "resource" and "resource_set" mean?
can you give an example?

the doc says:
"resource_set" = a set of resources - what else ? ;)
"resource" = a specific resource agent
