Can you provide a link to the web.xml, and tell us a little bit more 
about your environment. F.e. The output of startup.sh and so on.

maybe it is just a typo? with java version are you using.

I have no problems using helma in tomcat. So maybe this is something for 
the tomcat mailing list?
