how did you use NB during that timeframe? Did you open/close lots of projects by any chance? (hundreds?)

NB does have a known metaspace leak due to a cache, but it shouldn't be noticeable most of the time:

-J-Djava.source.aptutils.disable.classloader.cache=true

disables the cache
