I don't think it is a technical problem just a preference. I like how infinispan is hosted at https://github.com/infinispan/infinispan 
Frequent contributors work of a local fork and issue pull requests to be integrated into the main repo. Manik, explained the process here http://community.jboss.org/wiki/InfinispanandGitHub
