AFAIUI, KUBE_PING requires special permissions to fetch the IP addresses of the pods from Kubernetes, whereas DNS_PING uses plain domain service functionality and therefore doesn't. Both protocols can be used in a Kubernetes/Openshift environments. Unless I'm mistaken, DNS_PING is the protocol of choice included in the Wildfly/EAP/JDG/Infinispan images for Openshift.
