I'm running tests on AWS as we speak. When running simple EC2 machine and starting docker with network=host, and then binding to eth0, everything works. I'm looking into network=bridge now... I don't think any operating will let you bind to an address or a NIC that's not available on the local host. However, I'll experiment with external_addr to see if there's a workaround.
