Right. Note that this decision might be unilateral

No, this is done by FD_SOCK, that's why I recommend both FD_SOCK and 
FD_ALL in the same stack.

We used to have this in TCP as well, but when connectio reaping (closing 
idle conns) was introduced, this feature was removed.
