On a different note, I am struggling to find information about how the protocols JGroups provide can be bundled up together, what is 
allowed and what it is not. I couldn't find anything online which states what makes a stack valid. 

I apologise if such info was around and I couldn't find it, I wouldn't be surprised if this was the 10E(10E)+ you were asked such question...

For instance, can I have two discovery protocols in my stack ?

<JDBC_PING>

Is that "legal" ? Is there any piece of documentations which you reckon I could find useful ?
