   I have been hard at work refactoring some core systems in order to
accommodate a more flexible user and group model that would allow
security.  Over the last week, I wrote a Hibernate provider for
OpenSymphony's OSUser module and fixed the bugs in the Hibernate
provider for PropertySets.  In addition, the authentication system has
been abstracted (and extracted) from the jsp/servlet/struts layer.
This will allow true authentication despite the protocol.  This system
has been geared towards the next stage- completing the authorization
component.
   Unfortunately, in order to accomplish this, many things were broken.
Matt and I have agreed the best course of action is to temporarily
break the tree.  I will begin checking in this code over the next 18
hours.  Once complete, I will be sending an SOS for help in repairing
the tree.
