Here is an overview of the issue:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
        Key: JLCP-209
Summary: JLCP does not currently work with Oracle
       Type: Bug

     Status: Assigned
   Priority: Major

 Time Spent: Unknown
   Estimate: 1 day

    Project: Javalobby Community Platform
   Fix Fors:
             0.9.0 (Jupiter)
   Versions:
             0.5.1

   Assignee: Matthew Schmidt
   Reporter: Sam Pullara

Environment: Oracle 9.2

Description:
Hibernate doesn't appear to support CLOBs like they should be so it tries to use VARCHAR2s for all fields -- even though they have a limit of 4000 characters on Oracle. Additionally, some of the column names are not legal on oracle.

Contains a 65535 length field which is then mapped to a varchar2(65535) which is illegal in Oracle. You must use a CLOB type.
src/org/jlcp/core/attribute/provider/hibernate/entity/AttributeValue.hbm.xml

Contains a 10000 length field which is then mapped to a varchar2(10000) which is illegal in Oracle. You must use a CLOB type.
src/org/jlcp/module/cms/provider/hibernate/entity/TextArea.hbm.xml
src/org/jlcp/module/rss/provider/hibernate/model/RssFeed.hbm.xml

Contains a 8000 length field which is then mapped to a varchar2(8000) which is illegal in Oracle. You must use a CLOB type.
src/org/jlcp/module/forum/provider/hibernate/model/Message.hbm.xml
src/org/jlcp/module/poll/provider/hibernate/model/PollResponse.hbm.xml

Temporary workaround, reduce field sizes to 4000. The correct thing to do is find the Hibernate workarounds for this issue (or use EJB CMP 2.0 instead of this hibernate stuff :))

Can't name a table "file" in Oracle. Renamed file_center.
src/org/jlcp/module/filecenter/provider/hibernate/model/File.hbm.xml

Can't name a column "comment" in Oracle. Renamed comment_field.
src/org/jlcp/module/poll/provider/hibernate/model/PollResponse.hbm.xml

Can't name a column "uid" in Oracle. Renamed user_id.
src/org/jlcp/module/calendar/provider/hibernate/model/CalendarEvent.hbm.xml
