Javalobby Volunteers and JLCP Developers,
After several weeks of waiting and the threat of an ulcer to this =
young body of mine, we've finally moved the JLCP source from =
SourceForge.net to our own Javalobby run server at JForge.org. We hope =
that this move will allow up-to-date anonymous CVS access and faster =
developer access, two of the major problems we've been having at =
SourceForge lately. To prevent any further delays, we have taken the =
code from SourceForge and merged it into our new JForge CVS server. =
This code has been tested and runs and is basically JLCP v0.5.1 with =
some improvements to several of the modules. There is a lot to do and =
we're going to be working hard to get this stuff back on track. Some of =
the things we still need include security (possibly with Seraph), =
Hibernate paging is broken (Transient Exception), Tomcat integration, =
better documentation, and we need improvements to nearly all the =
modules. We've gotten some great new volunteers who are eager to help, =
but if anyone is handy with Hibernate, JSPs, and Struts we'd love to =
have you on board. Matthew Porter will be trying to commit some of the =
changes he has made as his time permits, but that shouldn't stop anyone =
from grabbing the latest code and hacking away at these bugs! We're =
going to be moving full speed ahead and I encourage everyone to stop by =
the IRC channel (#jlcp on irc.freenode.net), shoot me an email, or leave =
me a message on AIM at mattSVSM.
=20
If you're interested in helping, I would recommend first creating a =
new account at JForge.org. Your user should be created in about 5 =
minutes, then you just need to mail your username to me. I'll get you =
added to the project and you can get started. I would recommend that =
you check out the source by anonymous CVS first, and become familiar =
with the code. This can be easily done by setting your CVS client to =
:pserver:[email protected]:/cvsroot/jlcp and logging in with no =
password. You may also want to look at our Jira server at =
http://jira.jlcp.org and find a few tasks that you think look =
interesting. We welcome everyone to post their feature requests in the =
issue tracker, as it helps us to prioritize what needs to be done. =20
=20
Javalobby has a great deal planned for JLCP in the coming months, =
including several new sites based on some new modules. What this =
translates into is that you'll continue to see great improvement in JLCP =
and the start of a great community system that hopefully provides a =
foundation for everyone who wants to build a community oriented site. I =
look forward to working with everyone on JLCP and I know that together =
we can improve the system into something that is truly great. =20
Regards,
Matt
