I'd like to bring your attention to the newly created apache
project for a J2EE application server:

   http://incubator.apache.org/projects/geronimo.html

and as described on theserverside:

   http://www.theserverside.com/home/thread.jsp?thread_id=20763#91718

Mort Bay and our partners Core Developers Network (http://www.coredevelopers.net)
have been involved in the initiation of this project and we intend
to integrate Jetty into this new platform and open community.

We will of course continue to support Jetty as a stand alone and
embeddable container, also as part of JBoss and the other server
platforms that it is integrated with, such as JOnAS & Avalon.

There may also be an opportunity for Jetty itself to become an
apache sub project under the Geronimo project. This would require
a change of the Jetty license and some significant changes to the
development process of Jetty. So while this may be an interesting
option for the future of Jetty, it is one that we will not take
lightly and only after significant discussions with the Jetty
community. So this is one for us all to ponder on.

regards
