I wasn't around at the time so the best advice I can give you is to check the mailing list archives. It might be a known problem. IMHO the sourceforge archives are a bit annoying to search but AFAIK at least jikesrvm-researchers is also archived at gmane.org.

You could also try to find a commit that fixes this behaviour in the repository, e.g. by finding a later version that does not exhibit this behaviour and then using bisection (e.g. with hg bisect).

Lastly, you could try to mention your reasons for using Jikes RVM 2.4.6 (if you can disclose them) and hope that somebody else on this list can suggest an alternative approach.
