IIRC that's what should happen at this point. The MMTk Tutorial starts from the NoGC collector which doesn't support any garbage collection at all. It merely supports allocation. You ought to have a working collector after finishing the MMTk tutorial.

The MMTk test harness is intended to run on normal JDKs. It doesn't need to run on Jikes RVM.

IIRC there isn't any support for using a Jikes RVM build as a normal JRE.
