Trying to integrate Jira 4.3.4 and Crowd 2.1.0

Hi all

I have been tasked with upgrading our Atlassian infrastructure in a staged manner. First step is to set up an instance of Jira 4.3.4 and hook it up to the current Crowd server which is version 2.1.0. However I try, I cannot get it to authenticate. I have followed the guide [http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CROWD/Integrating+Crowd+with+Atlassian+JIRA].

Upon Jira startup I receive the following line (just the once) in *<crowd.home>/logs/atlassian-jira.log*

And when I attempt to authenticate I receive the following errors in *<jira.home>/logs/atlassian-jira-security.log* (repeated lines omitted).

I can successfully perform and Authentication Test for the application through the Crowd administrative interface. I suspect the issue may be related to the *crowd-integration-client-x.x.x.jar*. The jar version shipped with Jira is *2.2.5* and as previously stated the current version of Crowd is *2.1.0*. However if I use the *2.1.0* client jar Jira will not even start - I shall spare you the entire 4500 line stack trace but the gist of it is here:
