bweb, This is going to sound odd, but very carefully check for extraneous spaces in the e-Mail address field. Both at the start of the field and the end of the field. It's the sort of thing that's bitten me before. Also, just to be certain you do it right, try temporarily changing the e-Mail address to an alternate, and then re-entering the correct address. Beyond that, from my experience and a help-desk ticket or two, JIRA wants a bare e-Mail address for the user, of the form "name@domain". The qualified form "DisplayName <name@domain>" gives JIRA fits. Luck!
