What's Up with the Isolation API?

  Filip Selendic has posted some links in the

Isolation API.
   
  (1) Pete Soper (Sun) maintains a page that collects

 If I may quote:

  We're now expecting JSR-121 to deliver isolation
APIs directly usable as optional packages designed for
CLDC, CDC and J2SE, hopefully before the J2SE 1.5
release time frame. And our intention is to model the
next round of formal process steps after the JSR-014
(generics) model with binary prototypes to allow users
to exercise the isolation APIs via a simple RI while
more interesting implementations catch up with the
specification.

  In parallel with the conference we became aware of a
very exciting alternative to the traditional means of
creating an API set for the various Java editions
(i.e. J2SE, J2ME/CDC, J2ME/CLDC, etc). This somewhat
flies in the face of the status I gave at the BOF
session and Doug Lea's remarks and mine that we might
put out a 2nd public review very quickly. Please bear
with us: this course correction is worth it!
	
  Instead of JCP/J2ME making subsets of the "big"
JSR-121 API collection coming out of the J2SE process
via separate JSRs with all the time and expense they
would involve, we're working on a means of providing a
single interface package that is identical from CLDC
all the way up to J2SE, plus additional packages that
provide the specific features corresponding to the
larger Java editions (i.e. CDC and J2SE). This is
almost entirely a refactoring exercise: no real
functionality changes are involved, so don't go into
shock when you see the next public review javadoc or
any preview snippets. But this will make it trivial to
know what you can rely on having in any development
context as well as saving a ton of time.

under construction code-named Barcelona that uses some
if not all concepts from the Isolation API @
