I actually wrote my own O/R tool called DataBind (
http://www.databind.org/ ) which I use.  I am also looking at Hibernate
now as another possible alternative.

I tend to avoid anything which generates code so I have never really
been fond of Torque.  However, feel free to build an implementation of
the UserManager interface which uses Torque should you wish.  Just make
sure that the UserManager interface has no Torque-specific features in
it.
