   #user .username.asserted {

   }
   #user .username.authenticated {
       background:url(images/user_green.png)  2px 2px no-repeat;
   }

to names indicative of their status, rather than colour?

(or perhaps 'user-anon.png', 'user_assert.png' and 'user_auth.png' if
there's any desire for shorter names.)
