Nathan, This sounds like the (classic?) ATI video driver bug. Those with an ATI video card should update its driver and they should no longer see that hang. As a work-around, adding this option to the invocation of the JVM for this or any GUI program that exhibits this bug should suppress the symptom: "-Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true" Good luck.
