I think it is safe to say that if JSwat reports that the threads are not there anymore, then they are definitely gone. As with nearly everything in JSwat, that panel is built directly from the information reported by the Java Debug Interface. The JDI gets its information from the debuggee JVM and if it says those threads are not there, it means the threads have died. On the other hand, JSwat was not designed for detecting resource leaks. There are much better tools for that (JProbe and OptimizeIt come to mind) sort of thing.
