tomcat/servlet doesn't find source

probably really dumb, but......

running 3.7, tomcat 5.5.12, win2k/sp4

in the past, don't recall having the problem, which is that jswat
says packages/classes don't exist for source not in the primary package
tree of the servlet code.  that is, when in the source editor window.
the source tree shows the source for such a class quite plainly in the
source
tree (left pane).  i've added the library jar(s) to the source path, no
difference.  debug is on in the javac ant task.

what's even stranger, other source files don't have the issue.  that is,
source
files in the main package may or may not resolve source references from
other packages.

Programmers will always gravitate towards viewing the data in "their
databases" as their private bailiwick, and insist that users of the data
access it through their own API.  Learning SQL is certainly better than
learning a hundred programmer's different APIs.
