The expression evaluator should support this in the form of the assignment operator (=). When your application is stopped via a breakpoint, bring up the expression evaluator window, type in the name of the variable, followed by '=', and then an expression to be assigned to that variable. For example:

myint = 10
mystr = "this is a string"
myvar = MyClass.method(10, anotherMethod("foo"), true)

And so on. The help page for the expression evaluator should mention what features of the Java language are supported (basically all "expressions" except for 'new', 'super', and the ternary operator (?:)).

I was wondering if it is possible to modify variables when the program 
is suspended. I have not seen a method for this. It is quite important 
to me, as I am working with encrypted data, and it is very difficult to
 
modify the dataset for testing.
