Indeed, we do not use automatic mocking frameworks for JUnit's self-tests.
 In many places, we test features by what you might consider
integration-style, constructing test classes that use the feature, and
asserting the desired outcomes.  In some others, we use hand-rolled mocks.

Let me know if you have any questions about translating particular idioms.
