[JXTA discuss] Java Standard Edition 5.0 *Only* for September 2005 Release?

For quite a while the JXTA Java Standard Edition releases have used a 
policy of supporting the the two most recent Java Release versions. This 
means that current JXTA releases support J2SE 1.4.2 and JDK 5.0

However, since JDK 5.0 has been out for over a year now and is available 
on most platforms,since JDK 6.0 is still quite a ways off and  because 
there will be no JDK 5.1 release, we've been wondering if now is an 
appropriate time for dropping support for Java 2 Standard Edition 1.4.2 
by JXTA.

The current plan is to remove the J2SE 1.4.2 requirement for CVS on 
August 16th (Shebakia code freeze day) and the JXTA Java first release 
requiring Java Standard Edition JDK 5.0 would be the Shebakia which is 
planned for September 15th, 2005.

The first release which would make use of JDK 5.0 features would likely 
be the December 2005 release. The most likely initial features to be 
used would a limited use of generics (Ever notice all those lovely 
javadocs for Collections used within JXTA? They are all intentional 
hints as to how the structures can be converted to generics) and likely 
some use of the JSR-166 concurrency utilities to replace current JXTA 
utility code.
