I would really like to play with JXTA on smaller-footprint devices but the
problem is that the smaller and lower power one goes, the tougher the hardware
gets to deal with.  Beyond this, the smaller hardware becomes very expensive to
develop and its cost is very high for anything less than very large volumes.  

The great thing about starting with the VIA hardware is that it is virtually a
commodity item, it is very inexpensive and we can build embedded JXTA systems
with this hardware right now and begin building a base of embedded JXTA
software.

I personally think that it is important for us to start building embedded
software on top of JXTA ASAP so that embedded JXTA can begin developing a
market presence.  While the VIA hardware is not appropriate for all embedded
uses, it is definitely usable for a significant fraction of embedded uses and
so we will begin with these "low hanging fruit" applications.

If things go like I am hoping they will go, we will be so busy tackling the
"low hanging fruit" applications over the next couple of years that we won't
have time to think about the smaller-footprint applications anyway :-)

During this time, if we are able to actually give JXTA a market presence in the
embedded space then this should be a good launching-pad for moving JXTA into
even smaller devices.
