I have been trying to get things configured correctly on my
laptop and not seeming to be able to make much progress with it.
Finding it very difficult to do anything till i figure out a
working configuration.

I have been poking around with the older PipeService example
where a client/Server instances can be launched to communicate
over a pipe. It is part of the dev guide kit and comes with
its own jxta.jars etc.

I am not sure I am configuring things correctly on the config
UI that comes up. I have tried several permutation and combi-
nation of things.

I am behind our company firewall and I do not want to go out
anyway right now. We have a local firewall on our boxes that
drops UDP traffic. I disabled that.

I tried just using tcp transport with multicast and disabled
http for client and servers. The server comes up creates a
pipe and waits for messages. i enabled it to be the rendezvous.

The client comes up - calls createOutputPipe() and then
waits forever trying to get a Rendezvous connection. I did
make the tcp listening ports different.

I am expecting the client to find the server as a rendezvous
peer and then establish a pipe connection. Is my expectation
correct ?

I then turn the http on for both of them (while keeping tcp
turned on) and enable the server to handle both inbound and
outbound connection.

Still I do not see any activity. Or am I expecting something
wrong ?

I turned the debug on, and am still in the process of reviewing
the logs. I can see it is trying to open sockets to what appear
to be addresses outside our company. I could be wrong though..
I see it is trying to download the rdv seed list from jxtahosts.net
which is of course not possible in this configuration..

Anyway would really appreciate help on getting a working config
for local development so that various jxta apps can work. I do
not have access to multiple machines at this point.

I will keep trying to tinker with the config in the meantime.

thanks
d
ps: it cannot be this hard just to get a working platform :-)
