I haven't done it myself (I don't need the level of detail provided by the built-in metering stuff), but the instructions for building JXTA with metering turned on are here: http://meter.jxta.org/docs/ BuildingAndConfiguringMonitoring.pdf You will have to change some property files and rebuild before you can run a peer with monitoring.
