Yes, I ran the turnkey demo on the open internet and it worked fine.
Actually, in that case my edge peer was on a home LAN (behind NAT)
and the rendezvous was on the public internet.

Your problem is almost certainly not related to what is in your
PlatformConfig.

Can you "telnet 9701" to your public rendezvous?  If no, it is behind
a firewalling packet filter.

Is the router behind which the rendezvous sits doing port-forwarding?

If yes, JXTA will not work without tuning the ports.
