IMHO For a pure Model 2 play your best bet is SpringMVC.

IMHO If you want to work with a web component model than Tapestry is a
better choice based on what is important to you.

I have a general question regarding all the different frameworks out there
(Struts, Spring, Tapestry, WebWork, Cocoon, etc...). As a front-end
developer, I hate using frameworks that try to "generate"
all kinds of html/javascript code for you. I like to have total control over
things like that. I'm very picky about my html code, my js code and
especially my CSS code.

What I wanted to know is, out of all the different frameworks that
"simplify" web development for you, which one of them generates the
cleanest, xhtml, standards compliant code out of them all? Or rather, which
one doesnt generate anything for you and lets you do it yourself. I dont
like frameworks like Struts and JSF because they just provide tags that
generate whatever html they want. I have no control over it. I was playing
around with a JSF tutorial and one of the tags (CommandLink I think)
generated some nasty javascript code and attached it to my hyperlinks to
post my forms. Thats the kind of thing I dont like.

So, from all the different frameworks that everyones played with, which one
would you say is the "cleanest" as far as the code generation (or no code
generation) ?
