deleting my local repository helped... apparently there where some corrup=
ted jar files.

created new project, copied files under=20
keel-build/example-projects/default to new project dir, executed:
  maven jar:install

and then:
  maven keel:maven war

and got success using version 1.2.17 of keel maven plugin.
