jdialog box ,not be able to type letters :-(

Hello List ,

first : im not very familiar with java ! sorry !

im using java1.3.1_02b 
(only this version is compatible with our java applet)

i have a problem with a jdialog box . the box is for authenticate users.
the box appears and looks fine but i cant type any letters .only "german
umlaute" ( ö ä ü ß ) 

whats the problem ? incompatible,fonts,properties ...? 

with j2re1.4.1 i can type every letter into the jdialogbox but after
authenticate the applet wont work overall.



please help
