Have you seen the ServiceUI project at Jini.org?  It is not a Jini-only
project and the intent is for it to present local UI's to remote services
(whatever that might mean).  FYI, I intend to eventually get around to
developing an XUL UIFactory for ServiceUI.  It was also written by the
well-respected artima.com founder Bill Venners.
