  Well, there's no need to cut the
org.apache.commons.logging dependency. You can get the
package online @
http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/logging

  You only need to cut dependencies if your Java
runtime doesn't support Java 1.4, for example, but
just lets say Java 1.3.

  Anyway, let us know more about your project? Is it
work related? Is it a personal project? Are more
people involved in it? Are you planning to open source
it and so on.
